In this multimedia guide Reinhold Messner will guide you through the museum from station to station. He will tell you exciting stories and the visit of the museum will become a new adventure.

The museum in Sulden am Ortler, an underground structure at 1900 m above sea-level, is devoted to the world of ice. “At the end of the world” we call it. That is what it says on a 1771 map drawn by Peter Anich showing the glacier on the Ortler, beneath which the Ice Museum is located. At MMM Ortles Reinhold Messner tells of the Terrors of Ice and Darkness, Snow People and Snow Lions, the Whiteout and the Third Pole. The museum houses the world’s biggest collection of Ortler paintings as well as ice-climbing gear from two centuries.

Meet at the bottom station of the cable car in Sulden at 9.30 a.m.
Yak drive and mountain talk on the high-level summer pasture (no charge, no booking required)
At 3 p.m. Reinhold Messner will sign autographs for museum visitors at MMM Ortles (normal price of admission) and will be available for discussions and photos.

How to get there

By car: Road no. SS38 from Meran or SS40 from the Reschen Pass in the direction of Stilfserjoch as far as Gomagoi, then take the SS622 to Sulden.
